Emily Post's Table Manners for Children ... and Afternoon Tea Saturday, November 8, 12:30 - 2:30 pm, Lady Mendl's Tea Salon at The Inn at Irving Place, New York City
This children's etiquette workshop and tea for 8 - 12 year-olds is an opportunity for children to learn and practice everyday etiquette and table manners. During the workshop, Dr. Senning will emphasize the importance of consideration, respect and honesty for growing relationships. The workshop includes table conversation, place settings, and how to manage tricky foods. Ellen Easton will walk children through a child-friendly five-course afternoon tea.
"The lesson I like to share is that there is a reason for using manners: you express your respect for your friends, family, teachers -- everyone," says Dr. Senning. "It's not some old, stuffy list of rules; it's a way of communicating that says, 'I care about you. I value your friendship. I want to treat you well, and I want to be treated well.' It's a fundamental lesson kids should, and can, learn at a young age."
Each child will receive a copy of The Guide to Good Manners for Kids by Peggy Post and Cindy Post Senning, Ed.D., Afternoon Tea: Tips, Terms and Traditions by Ellen Eason and an Emily Post table manners certificate. An additional selection of Emily Post books will be available for purchase and signing. The fee is $250/child with family discounts. To register call Dawn Stanyon at (802) 860-1814 or e-mail dawn@emilypost.com.
Emily Post's Children's Etiquette for Parents ... and Afternoon Tea Friday, November 7, 12:30 - 2:30 pm, Lady Mendl's Tea Salon at The Inn at Irving Place, New York City
Teaching manners at the appropriate ages and stages is the focus of this workshop for parents, grandparents and other adults. Dr. Senning will talk about sharing the gift of good manners with children; she will stress the importance of teaching children that etiquette is about building and maintaining relationships, not just about which fork to use. Parents will walk away with practical "to dos" for nurturing good manners in their children. Ellen Easton, Afternoon Tea authority and author, will host a five-course tea and share interesting information on tea and the etiquette surrounding it. Attendees will receive copies of The Gift of Good Manners by Peggy Post and Cindy Post Senning, Ed.D.; Afternoon Tea: Tips, Terms and Traditions by Ellen Easton; and Emily Post: Daughter of the Gilded Age, Mistress of American Manners by acclaimed biographer Laura Claridge. An additional selection of Emily Post books will be available for purchase and signing. The fee is $150/person (with couples' discounts).
