Explore Zlin in New York Via Travel Exhibition 'ZLiNY'

NEW YORK, May 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "ZLiNY," an exhibition showcasing the historic city of Zlin and its rich legacy of architecture, art, culture, literature, education, trade and commerce, opens on May 15, 2008, at the Czech Center New York.

Zlin mayor Irena Ondrova said, "We are thrilled to get out the message to New Yorkers about our town, and we look forward to welcoming them here as tourists."

"We are inviting the public not only to visit 'ZLiNY' but also to meet some of Zlin's most famous people, a rare opportunity in the field of travel promotion," said Monika Koblerova, director of the Czech Center New York.

Highlights of the exhibition programming are:

May 15th through July 31st -- "Fresh Design" (http://www.fmk.utb.cz/), curated by noted architect Hana Marsikova, features porcelain and glass works, fashion accessories and video projections created by students from Tomas Bata University (TBU). Opening reception at the Czech Center New York on May 15th, at 6:30pm is free and open to the public.

May 19th at 7pm -- World-renowned architect Eva Jiricna (http://www.ejal.com/) will give a gallery talk about the last 100 years of stunning architectural achievements in Zlin. Reception at the Bohemian National Hall is free and open to the public.

May 20th at 3:30pm -- A special invitation-only presentation on "Doing Business in Zlin." Organized by the Czech Consulate General New York, CzechTrade, CzechInvest USA (Bohemian National Hall).

May 20th at 7:30pm -- A gala evening (invitation only) at the Museum of Arts and Design with Honorary Chair, Ivana Trump, and Honorary Guests, Tomas Bata, Irena Ondrova, Eva Jiricna in celebration of "ZLiNY," will feature:

-- A special travel presentation on Zlin.
-- Architecture and Fashion, a photography exhibition by Lucie Robinson,
the nation's leading fashion photographer, captured Tatana Kucharova,
Miss World 2006, in a series of 14 evocative images featuring the new
University Center in Zlin.
-- A fashion show by Sarka Siskova,(http://www.siskova.cz)the/ remarkable
Zlin-born designer who heads the Studio of Fashion Design at Tomas Bata
University.
